Parliamentary election: League 36 wins

04/12/2022

A moment ago, results of today's parliamentary elections were announced. League 36, a populist party led by S.S., came victorious with 5 votes, winning one seat in the Parliament. Free Baránok and Drunk and Corrupt led by K.Č. and P.L. came second with 3 votes, both also obtaining one seat. The Socialist Party, led by Imrich Kvajda, won two votes and thus became extraparliamentary. S.S., who is the designated Prime Minister, has already announced his wish to form a government coalition with Free Baránok, with talks about forming it starting too. The elections were also accompanied by irregularities in the beginning, when a troll manipulated the results and the elections had to restart. The troll was later found out to be League 36's candidate D.K., who promised not to do it again. The turnout was the biggest in Baranese history, with 100% of voters (7 citizens) coming to the polls, with an average turnout in the previous elections being around 50 to 60%. This was very surprising, as presidential elections, held about two weeks earlier, had the lowest turnout (37,5%).

Analysis: Questionable stability of the new  government

As League 36 chose K.Č.'s Free Baránok as its coalition partner, questions rose up about the stability of their potential government, because League 36's campaign was mostly targeted against President M.B. and K.Č., FB's President. The main point is how long will the new government last, as its two leaders are bitter political rivals for a long time and disagree on many topics, with S.S. even being one of the leaders of the December 2020 coup (or as he calls it, "revolution"), which overthrew K.Č.'s government. There is also a small possibility of a hung parliament, if neither FB nor DaC agree to form a government with the League. This possibility is, however, unlikely to happen.
